Location
Long Marton is a pleasant Eden village, conveniently located a mile or so from the trans-Pennine A66 Trunk route. Appleby, a lovely old market town and former County Town of Westmorland, is the nearest urban area, being some 2? miles distant and providing an excellent range of local amenities including a country station on the scenic Settle-Carlisle line. Penrith, a larger town with a greater range of services, is some 10? miles distant.The village is centred along a quiet main street, with an assortment of largely traditional dwellings on both sides. The plain but impressive Parish Church is unusually situated a short distance from the village, on the other side of Trout Beck, which flows past the northern side of the village. There is an excellent village primary school and also a small inn.
